In Manuel Domingos Apura & Filhos SA, as in society in general, there is an increasing awareness and concern about environmental issues. Thus our company has been implementing over the years several measures that aim to contribute to the improvement of the environment. Among these measures are the construction of a WWTP in which the liquid effluents resulting from the cooking process are treated, the investment in renewable energies, namely solar, as well as the use of biomass (pellets) and wastes resulting from the production process and cork powder) to feed the boiler burner.

Another of our environmental concerns is to ensure that the cork we purchase comes from certified forests, forests with a sustainable management plan and protected natural areas. Thus, only in 2016, 82% of the cork that came into our facilities comes from assemblies certified by the Natura 2000 Network and by Regulation CE 834/2007.
